EDF Estimated Bill

A new low in unhelpful billing. We just received an EDF estimated electricity bill for the past quarter. Instead of the usual bill with a previous (real or estimated) reading and a current (real or estimated) reading, calculation, and an amount to pay, it simply says it estimates we owe them £x so pay up by 5th October or send them a reading online or by phone.

1) Usually one can look at the estimated reading and if is close enough decide whether or not to accept it. I have no idea what estimated reading the bill is based upon.
2) When I tried to phone in a reading I got stuck in a queue and gave up.
3) When I went online I found that one cannot simply enter an account number and reading one has to register for an online account with yet more passwords and memorable dates to remember.

I am looking at the possibility of finding a new energy supplier at present this stupidity may help me make my decision.
