Advice needed on how to repair scratched handle on new oven!!

I bought a new oven and prior to having it fitted managed to leave it unwrapped long enough for the silver coated plastic handle to get a few small scratches so that some black plastic from underneath is showing through. (Metal handle for me next time!!)

The manufacturer recommended a new handle costing £45, but my husband says it will be a difficult job to get the handle off, apart from the expense.

I thought I could use a fine brush and paint in the scratch if I could get a good match. My husband said spraying after masking up the oven would be better.

However, the two paint suppliers I emailed to ask for advice (Rust-oleum and Plastikote) both said thier products are not suitable for ovens. I don't know why since the handle surely doesn't get hot??

I am now feeling very disheartened and would value any advice. Many thanks
