enter button- does it do anything??

Hi,
Im really sorry if this is somewhere else but what does the enter button do? I have clicked on it when I entered a comp, assuming it would be in my information what comps I have entered, but dont think thats it and I cant work out any other changes. Usually I have just been pressing the thanks button when I have entered them.
