i have learnt when dealing with the genius bar to approach the smaller stores, they are much more helpful, for example i live in Walsall, rather than go to Birmingham Bullring, i travel round to Solihull as they are much more helpful.

Probably says more about the catchment area and the type of clientele, Dorridge and all that, surprised they don't pick up that J10 twang;)

Seriously, if you only expect 12 months out of it that is part of the problem IMO.

I have a DELL (PC) that is 6 years old, had to replace the HDD but I accept that. The rest is humming fine. Increased the RAM to cope with ever hungry applications and I am sure that will be the thing to makes it obsolete in due course.

I used to work with a portfolio of c.2000 corporate laptops I know that they are notoriously less reliable due to the type of life they have and battery management issues you hilight. We used to fullty refresh at around the 3 year mark and drip feed replacement units from around 12 months. The drip feed was for resilient buffer stock to meet a need for 24 hour turnaround.

Ha cheeky, i used to live in Dorridge actually, Poplar road, in the apartments just behind the tesco! Believe me, that place has it's own problems/scumbags!

I think with all products there are some that will develop faults after 1 year, and others with the right care will last an age - my own macbooks are both running fine, after 4 and 2 years. but as i alluded to earlier, things arent made like they used to be, as these companies want us back in the shops buying the new stuff...

Totally agree with that last bit but that is another discussion methinks.

I am convinced some products have a chip in them that records switch ons, hours used, that is programmed to disable the products but perhaps I am paranoid or perhaps you should buy things on miserable Sundays.
