Winter in Spain

I have a property on the Costa Calida between Murcia City and the Mar Menor coastline.
We have it as mild as most places in Spain,it is not unusual to reach 20 degrees in the winter and get very few days of below 15.The amount of nights we see a frost are less than 5,have never seen snow and ok you need heating at night but not blasted out like in the UK.
You could pick up a long term rental with heating etc for around £450 a month locally.
My parents are more than happy to have 6 weeks at a time in November / February in the more mild climate of our area than wet & windy and damn cold UK."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

Hi, A few years ago we went to portugal in january and there were quite a few retired people from the uk in the apartments staying for a couple of months it seemed quite the norm, ok the weather wasnt hot but a lot warmer than the uk was at that time of year, If someone could keep an eye on your property etc or house sit it should be ok
good luck and enjoy0 -
You house insurance may be invalidated if you leave your house unoccupied for more than 30 days. Worth checking this.0

We did not have the fan on during the night - AC was discarded 3 weeks ago.
Spain - like other countries - is not the winter country it used to be.
Have just had the last week in Ronda and Nerja and not seen any rain just lovely sunshine...
Think you have to look at the long range temperatures and www.wunderground has a great traveller tool to do just that. I regularly go out to Spain in February and December and whilst it is certainly true it rained a huge amount please remember what the weather was like in England.. minus 15! You do need to ensure that any accomodation has heating and yes you will need coats. You will have plenty of sunny days ... lunches sitting outside. I think you would be best to drive down and take your time doing this... you could treat yourselves to nights in the paradors enroute which you will be able to get at a great Golden Days rate. You will also be able to take plenty of clothes
The Trip Advisor forum for Spain will be able to answer your accomodation questions and suggest local long term agenices. I would recommend somewhere like Nerja which is a town with a large expat population over areas such as Fuengirola/Benalmadena etc which can be pretty empy in winter months. Personally would not do a hotel for that long... just not enough space.

Some useful advice on here re cold nights and variability in the weather.
If you're there for 3 months you won't be in the warm sun every day.
Everything is relative, though. You'll have many more warmer sunnier days than here in the UK. I have been to Nerja in February and enjoyed swimming in the sea. The locals thought we were mad as they would never swim at this time of year. However, the sea was warmer than my local swimming spot, Aberdyfi, is in August!0 -
There's more daylight hours too, so much more likely to get out and about for a walk, fresh air etc.
We went to a place called Rincon de la Victoria for Christmas, was a nice small town, plenty of supermarkets a few pubs and seafood restaurants. not touristy at all. Yes we needed to wear a cardi at night, but it was lovely weather nearly every day - one cloudy day when we went along to Benalmadena and that was all.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

It is lovely sunshine today and warm but last week it rained for 2 hours in Nerja and it WAS cold. It also rained in Gibraltar and in Torremolinos - I asked at the gym from people who went there on a shopping trip.0
