Lloyds TSB agree to PPI payout, now saying letter sent in error and no PPI on card

Hi all
My partner had a Lloyds Credit Card that he settled in 2004. He has gone through all his accounts and queried them all as to whether he has PPI on them - he has on all of them and all were mis-sold it has transpired.
He queried the same with Lloyds re his credit card and they acknowledged his letter, sent another letter apologising for delay and finally just before the 16 weeks sent a letter stating that they were sending him a full payout of all premiums with 8% interest.
However he then 2 weeks later has received a letter saying the offer letter was sent in mistake and they have now realised there was no PPI on the card? We are pretty sure there was and sent a letter back asking them to provide several statements clearly to prove this was not the case.
The reason we are dubious is because on his loan ppi claim they sent a letter saying there was no PPI on the loan and it was only when we wrote back to say we knew there was as he had claimed on it that they quickly changed their stance! This is now going through and we are awaiting the cheque thankfully.
Has anybody else had a similar situation like this? Is this standard lloyds tactics?
Thanks

Hi there
Have you thought about requesting a SAR (Subject Access Request), they have 40 calendar days to comply and send all data they still hold, I received data going back to the late 90's/
Its options to request a SAR, but maybe useful.
You enclose the one payment of £10 cheque or postal order, if you use the bank account number of lloyds (if banked with them), data of all accouts taken out with them should be provided within the SAR.
SAR letter template below, good luck.
