Broadband in Antrim

  • Hi,
Most of NI, is enabled in that the vast majority of exchanges are enabled and a significant percentage of the poulation are covered but not all cabinets are enabled, the rollout its still continuing.
The BT website seems to be very slow in updating, for the most accurate guide to fibre availability in your area use: http://www.fasterbroadbandni.com/

Quite sensibly, in many cases, the further out cabinets are generally getting enabled first to allow fast broadband (and in many cases, broadband for the first time) in these exchanges which had very slow or even no ADSL service. The cabinets closest to the exchange seems to be generally getting done last as those on these exchanges are already enjoying 8-24 mb connections so their need is less than those in not-spots or struggling to get over 1mb.

Hopefully you will also get fibre soon.

I thought NI had 100% ADSL coverage. I thought it was the first to get it too.

Yes saverbuyer, in line with my point, that was 100% of EXCHANGES, not properties.
I'm about 2 miles from my exchange, and my cabinet is only 2 yrs old. I WANT IT NOW!!!!
  • Something to note also, when you get BT Infinity in NI, you are not on true Fibre. Fibre has been installed from the exchange to the cabinet but not from the cabinet to your house/premises, BT have no dates or roll out plans to install this, saying the cost is to much at the present time

So as with ADSL, if you are to far away from the exchange you cannot get fibre broadband, and if you are close enough you will still be on two pair copper wire for some of the distance.
