Air Compressor at Petrol Station broke my valve

Options
I am after some information on this problem.

I went to a well known supermarket to use their air compressor as the car was saying the tyre pressures were low.

Inserted my 20p (as they all seem to be now days) put the end on the valve, and then I heard a rushing of air. Took the connector off and it had broken the metal part of the value, so the tyre went down very quickly.
So I had put the spare on.

Went into the shop and they said it's no owned by them, it's rented.

It's a sensor valve and is going to cost £90 just to replace the valve, then it's needs to be calibrated.

Where do I stand with this in regards to the supermarket?

Or you could just put a normal valve on for a few quid.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • I could, but it will show up on the display an error every 5 mins as it's saying there is a fault.

No its a Peugeot it is missing some toys, like reliability ;-)

In all seriousness the only way I could see a valve breaking when filling would be if you bent the nozzle while attached to your valve.
  • That's very true, only just go the car back from have a new catalytic converter as the last one was kindly removed by someone!!

I have used the air many times.

So just have to put it down to a unexpected accident.

Would that not also suggest the valve was already broken and leaking air?

I can count on one hand the number of times I've had to use the air at a garage.

unless there was a stream of cars with broken valves its more likely the valve was weak/faulty
the onus would be on you to prove otherwise
  • well, to update this.

when the problem occurred, it apparently coincided with the unit having a fault and should of been closed off.

So the supermarket have claimed it's their fault and are going to replace the value etc.. to a cost to them, all £250 for a tyre valve, so I am happy at that. :j

Sometimes it does work out in the end!!
