Barclay card repayment after death.. some years on.

    Basically the administrator's job is to ascertain all the debts and assets, pay the debts from the assets and distribute whatever's left. If the assets don't fully cover the debts, they are shared among the creditors pro-rata.

    At this point it matters whether the life insurance actually formed part of the estate, because if it did, Barclaycard had a claim against the insurance money, even if that meant the mortgage lender going a few thousand short instead of them.

    Edit: since it was a joint mortgage, it may be that Barclaycard should have got all or most of their money out of the life insurance, and your father would then have been left with the balance of the mortgage to pay off.

    Who was the executor?

    If Barclays refuse to budge the executor has a personal liability.
