Great Aunty Mary wants Broadband

My Great Granny wants broadband. At 84, she's always up for new things and she can't resist the attraction.
Are there any kind of grants or associations that offer free broadband for over 80s?
Thank you all.

Never heard of any grants, but if your great anty wants a mobile too? there is a great deal at Virgin. £15 for a sim card with free minutes and texts comes bundled with unlimited fast (up to 8Mb) broadband internet access."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

We use Pipex - they have a basic package, £19.99 a month. Cheap at the price, good back-up service if you ever need it, saves tying up the phone line if you're using the computer.
Suggest to her bank online as well - that's the best. Too cold to be pottering off out to draw pensions weekly at the post office.
I have a Nokia phone, probaly obsolete now, but it does what I want it to do. I pay as I go and it's a godsend. All older people should have one - you never know when you'll need it.

I think if there were such a scheme, you might suddenly get a lot of octogenarian surfers nominated by their grandchildren;)0 -
A little cheeky there!!
But I've got a super broadband deal after I managed to knock down NTL - thanks to MSE!!
Thanks to all though - I think the idea of a mobile phone is a good one too. I'll put it to her!0 -
How did you manage to knock NTL down, I am going to switch away from them, have been with them since they introduced broadband in 2000 I pay £17.99 for 2mg, have tried several times to get them to give me a reduction but to no avil, being a loyal customer counts for nothing these days. Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0

I managed to knock them down by threatening to leave.
I had TV and Phone through NTL and was going to switch to Free View and BT line for cheaper BB.
I told them this and they offered far cheaper BB and phone only than I could find (I was always going to go Freeview!). They also threw in discounted rates for 6 months.
This was about 2 years ago when they were desperate for clients prior to the Telewest merger, but the method is tried and tested.
