Turned down for two bank accounts

Hi I came on the forum a while back to ask advise on opening a bank account-forgot my user name and password so I have set up a new one.
Well people I am having some right problems with this.
I was advised that Co-op and Barclays had very good basic bank accounts, I have been into both the Co-op and Barclays and have been refused a bank account from both, I have also been given no reason why.
ID I took in was a passport, driving licence, tacho card, birth certificate, etc.
My circumstances are I have been living with my girlfriend for over 8 years- I work away from home (lorry driver) and have always had my wages paid into my girlfriends account. (live off my tax free expended paid cash)
We have now split up on good terms but I need a bank account to have my wages paid into.
I have never voted
I dont pay any bills in my name
my mobile phone is pay as you go
I have never had credit
If I don,t open a bank account soon my wages will be floating around because my ex is moving abroad and closing the account.
I got that desperate yesterday after being turned down by Barclays that I decided to apply for a secure trust account, you have to pay £12 a month for this service.
But now I have hit another problem, Secure trust have asked me to provide ID which I cannot provide, I have a passport and driving licence but I do not have any other forms of ID that they have listed because I have no bills in my name.
To top it all off, if I did have the ID I cannot work without my licence (I have to show it every day).- plus I don't really want to post my passport and driving licence because if they go missing I will have nothing to prove who I am.
I need help, why am I being refused, why can't I get a bank account.
I am not asking for credit, I am very good with money, don't need it.
Any ideas ?

It is odd that both Co-op and Barclays appear to have turned you down for Basic Bank accounts. I know that with the Co-op it is often reported that the advisors attempt to put the application through for a standard current account first (which may of course get rejected) before agreeing to open a Basic Bank account - might be worth a quick phone call to them to double-check that they did indeed reject you for their Cashminder account and not just for their current account.
They can't have rejected you based on ID as a passport and full driving licence would be sufficient (assuming the driving licence is registered at the address you are giving the Co-op as your home address).0 -
The reason is because you're invisible. Get on the voters roll. Right now you look a risk, I had this when In stay off roll for 3 years and only just now seem to get accepted for things.
Good luck and hope you get this bank account0 -

Looks like you are right, after i put this post up i decided to ring Co-op and ask why i have been rejected from opening a bank account.
The guy explained to me i had applied for a savings account, a current account with cheque book-which is not true, i stated i wanted to open a basic cash card account.
He took my details again-and he has now said my account has been provisionally excepted providing i can take some ID into a local branch.0 -

Good to hear:) go back to the original branch with your id and while you are there complain:)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Good news and good luck.
I would suggest you do not entrust all your cash to your next girlfriend."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Thanks for the update. Good to hear that they have now sorted the Cashminder account out for you.0
