dropped kerb parking problems

  • I do if there is space. I am just annoyed that they have just guaranteed themselves a parking space outside their house, when noone should have to right to that unless they have a driveway which they dont. It would be nice to be able to park outside my own house all the time but I know that it is not always possible.

So basically you are annoyed because they have something you don't ?:(
  • no, i am annoyed as I cant park there is there is no other space on the street and they are not in at the time I come home. Even though I am not blocking access to their property. I would have to find a legal parking spot on another street.

the council did the work, knowing they have a wall there. If the owner did knock their wall down. I dont think that they could get their car at the front of their house as our gardens arent very big. It may hang over onto the footpath.

It does say on the Directgov website that, as wriggly says , they have to create access to off road parking or permission won't be granted.. so how did they get permission if they then still can't park off road?

Reality is though it may seem unfair whilst the wall remains , if you persist in making an issue of it they will in all probability just knock the wall down.

Then it is game over ..they can park there for sure and equally for sure you can't.

All that nonsense about the size of their garden won't wash with the council either , I bet the garden is big enough to accommodate a Smart Car or a motorbike ..as such once the wall goes it IS an off road parking place , it does not have to be big enough to accommodate their car !

Dont know where they got permission from. This is where I am confused as well. I just think that they wanted to park outside there own house. Will have to see if their wall comes down later on to gain off the road parking.

Try checking with the council responsible for local roads. They should at least have some record of a request for a dropped kerb. Then you can advise them that the front gardens are not large enough to park a car & that they haven't completed the work bu creating off street parking (if they have got permission) or let them know an illegal dropped kerb has been installed.

If you have a Unitary authority they will do this or County or Borough otherwise.

Bloody small garden if it can't take a SmartCar !

The OP stated that the Council dropped the kerb so we assume there was permission.

That being the case they are highly unlikely to admit that they got it wrong because the garden is too small..because as well as admitting to a !!!!-up they would have to spend time and money putting the kerb back !

What's stopping you from getting permission for a dropped kerb and guaranteeing yourself a parking space?

Nothing now. I was on the understanding that you could only have a drop kerb if you had access to off street parking ( or going to make off street parking). Now that this has come to light I might just ask the council if I could get one doneas well.
