Hi throwoff, don't really have any advice except that you'll have a better chance of a decent reply (unlike post #2) in the buying/renting/selling forum.

If the house is still standing, the house will be fine. If you are in a rural area, make sure your pipework is earth bonded and you wont have a problem. I think you are overreacting. I tought myself how to do a rewire, unless there are bare wires/sparks etc, There is no legal requirement to have kitchen electrics on a seperate circuit, all you have to be aware of is that if you plug a million appliances in (dishwasher/dryer etc) run the oven and have your xbox/tv/loudspeakers on, dont be surprised if the circuit breaker trips every hour or so. I wouldnt worry. If the company who did the inspection did it for free, I bet they are trying to drum up trade. A bit like the garage I took my car to for its MOT.
"Sir, your car has passed, but you need new brake disks".
me - "Why"?
"THey are corroded".
me - "They get wet. They go through puddles, they are metal and therefore rust."
"sir, it could prove a hazard"
me - "they havent stopped working last time they were a bit rusty, stop trying to pull a fast one, you arent talking to a d!ckhead"
