Best £20 ever spent

Today i have spent £20 and its the best £20 i have ever spent.

My carpet was in much need of a good clean. I really wanted my own carpet cleaner, but didn't have the money spare and didn't wanna be disappointed with the result.

So i hired a rugdoctor, £20 in total incuding cleaning fluid and cannot believe how dirty my carpets were and how many stains it shifted. I was embarassed with the colour of the water. Also the carpets dried really quickly, each room only about an hour.

Anyone else hired them??

I do only have a 2 bedroom flat, so it didn't take me long at all to do the whole house.

I think they are great too! We hired one before and were really pleased with the results. I was amazed at the colour of the dirty water too :o

    Rugdoctor is a national chain - https://www.rugdoctor.co.uk

Just do a search and see if they are near to you...

  • yeah i get a rug doctor regularly, from homebase, great thing.
All advice given by thekid is in good faith but remember these important facts:
    1. I'm lucky enough to live in Scotland(Scots Law may apply)...
    2. My motto is "What's the worst that can happen" you've seen the kids in the Comic Relief clips, is it to that scale? Then get a grip!
    3. It's only money...no really(see #2)
    4. I'm only a plumber...

Has anybody used this on wool carpets ?

I have just looked on their website but I couldn't find any reference.
  • We've used a RugDoctor regularly for several years now, and they are great - and you can hire them from Homebase stores for about £13 for 24 hours! Homebase also sell the rugdoctor carpet shampoo too. You need to take along 2 forms of ID, one with yoiur address on it (so a utility bill or something) and pay a deposit.

They also have attachments for upholstery cleaning, and they work great too!

Acc72.Wool carpets you cant get to wet.if you do they shrink and smell like hell !
I have a Vax i use to clean carpets with, and bought a lot of Scotchguard from the £1 shop years ago,i spray that on afterwards, as i find once you have washed a carpet,it gets really dirty afterwards.
I do the car carpets as well, throw in a bucket of warm water with carpet shampoo in,then scrub it up then vax it out, spay it with scotchguard ,and its looks great, and water spills run off

Carpet guard for use after washing is available from Screwfix direct too.
I save so I can spend.
  • The rugdoctor machines are pretty weak compared to some of the machines carpet cleaners use. Small local firms can do the job for you for about £30.
Thats if your not too embarassed at the filth they pull from the carpets.

On a previous post, a professional carpet cleaner advised that only a minimum of detergent should be used, much less than recommended. His reasoning was that it's mainly the warm water being forced through that does the work anyway, and that using too much cleaner leaves a sticky residue, which then acts as a dirt magnet, hence more cleaning, more expensive detergent, etc, etc... Seems logical, I suppose.
