Blue Badge, DLA & ESA

I have terrible pain in all of my joints and am awaiting tests by specialist for Fibromyaliga (I also have Bipolar which is often found with it).
I'm currently changing my car to an automatic due to my feet and have trouble walking any distance, as well as back, shoulder and neck & finger pains
Can I apply for a blue badge & benefits (currently get Lower DLA care for the BP) before being diagnosed?
Also I wonder if anyone could shed some light on this....You can work and claim ESA for a year but you can't claim EMA when you are on maternity leave! Dones't sound right to me some how!!

You don't need a diagnosis to claim DLA you just need care/mobility needs.
For ESA you need to be unfit for work due to your health.
I don't know much about the blue badge. From the details you've given you won't qualify automatically as you don't receive high rate mobility DLA but your council may assess you as requiring it anyway. Probably best speaking to your local council.
I am confused by your reference to EMA, did you mean ESA? EMA is education maintanence allowance and used to be given to 16-19year olds in FT education from low income families. In order to receive it you had to attend college therefore couldn't receive it if you were not attending.
ESA you can claim while on maternity leave if you are not receiving Occupational or Statutory Maternity Pay or Maternity Allowance and are unable to work due to your pregnancy.0 -
Yep I did mean ESA!! Well past 19 haha
Im getting state maternity as I hadnt been in my part time job long enough to qualify for it from my employer.
Thank you for your help :-)0 -
You can get a blue badge without having high rate mobility but it is hard. High rate mobility automatically entitles you but if you don't receive this, it is possible to be assessed by the council OT who will go through your mobility problems with you and maybe make you walk a certain distance (although the OT I saw didn't do this with me as I was in my wheelchair and he could see that I really couldn't walk

If it helps - my 1st blue badge was granted under the disgresionary grounds - ie I got sick of waiting for DLA and my doctor did the paperwork and I got it. Then 1 week later my DLA was granted (typical!).
You should ge the paperwork from your local Social Services dept0 -
- all ' concessionary BB's ' stop next year
- many parts of the country have already stopped ' concessionary ' in readiness for the new law
- some still have the old lax rules, some are doing walking tests etc with an OT, give it a go - try now !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Cannot come soon enough tbh. Scores of people physically able to walk will have to find somewhere else to park!0
