Not sure if I should post here or on Techie but here goes.

I've got a shiny new TomTom 510 (yay Santa!) and just installed the latest PocketGPSWorld 'Safety' Camera Database. I've just been starting to set up the alerts and was wondering about what would be the best sort of distance to set for the various warnings.

Anyone got any hints for the following? To kick things off, I've put estimates in based on 30 secs (approx) warning:-

20mph - 300 yds
30mph - 400 yds
40mph - 550
50mph - 650
60mph - 800 yds
70mph / Variable - 900 yds
Red Light - 300 yds

All (sensible and non-judgemental) answers appreciated

Cheers

Jeff

I would think the distance you want the alerts for the scameras is personal choice. Some people will want a 30sec warning, others may only want 5secs. I guess its a case of trail & error to see what suits the individual. Personally, 30 seconds seems long as I'd probably forget about the alert before I reached the scamera.

True but I thought you'd want to be alerted a good 5-10 secs before the place they'd start to target you and then you could start to spend more time looking at the speedo (oops) legitimate reason why such a place needs a 'safety' camera.

MY Tomtom sets a default of 279 yards for the alerts ... I'm quite happy with that. Its gives adequate time to 'assess' the surroundings and speed.

The trouble I have found is that on mine it is difficult to know which cameras are which when you set the system up. I have found that some on the motorways are too short and I reckon you could be nailed before it has warned you.

To be fair my sttings are rather random and I need to sort them out but if your not sure pick a greater distance to be safe.

I use different alert tones for different scamera types too!! The loudest being for the dreaded SPECS!!
