What I love about digital TV

I was late swiching to digital and I always thought my mother's constant re-tuning was down to her lack of sophistication, but now I'm on freeview with her I now find that I'm caught in the same cycle.

You'd imagine that setting a fixed date to shut down the analogue signal might also give those responsible for organising things a date to aim at as regards completing maintenance, but it appears that the opposite has happened and having this new system dumped on us, we're all going to be playing hunt the channels on a regular basis.

I do hope that all the advertisers receive suitable refunds for their wasted adverts.

Presumably all those engineers who were sent out to set up the TV's belonging to the elderly are going to be kept busy indefinitely. The most irritating thing is having to keep going through the channel list deleting all the dross.

I was just in the middle of watching True Blood when my Freeview decided that it would drop every non-BBC channel.
Have re-tuned twice to no avail. Stupid system. So many times over the last 12 months I've lost all my channels, sometimes for days at a time. Considering they've been planning this for so many years, you think they'd know what they were doing by now :/

    I'm becoming Victor Meldrew.

One of the benefits of age.

My mother won't allow me to re-tune her TV as she assigned each brother different super powers at birth, and we aren't allowed to perform duties outside those allotted to us, for no particular reason.

    I'm computers - he's TV's. Resistance is futile.

Just when I was beginning to think I was losing my marble(s) MamaMoo comes along and reassures me. I was watching that too, but I'd only seen about 5 minutes before it went.

I'm still trying to get to grips with being able to watch something I missed an hour later, beacuse I always seem to get there after the part I missed.

The error message is useful in suggesting that the aerial may be at fault. I can just imagine lots of elderly people putting ladders up to their roof during the night.

Aaaah - you made my mistake.

You have a choice of one channel, but if you move off it to look at something else, even that goes.

    It's the digital age.

    Oops - no channels.

One low quality channel will do, and Freeview have lots of those.

I'll give 3D a miss - bring back analogue. (Having said that - maybe they have and now I've only got digital - and I fell for it).

We can forgive a government bakrupting the country and a lot else, but they'll not survive until the end of the week if they've bust the telly. Even Afghanistan has TV. They don't even have a way to beg forgiveness.

Looking on the bright side... I think they're going to increase the power output of the digital transmitters once the analogue TV ones are turned off.

And sell off all the lower frequencies to mobile phone operators, giving us all a big refund cheque for having to upgrade every TV we own....... :rotfl:
  • It's inexplicable that they've been warning about this for years, impose it on people at great expense and THEN start performing maintenance, rendering all the efforts they've made to ensure the elderly are set up, a waste of time.

I've only had my set a week and I've had to do it probably five times, which is ridiculous.

That's funny. The only BBC channels I can get are BBC4 and Parliament! A message kept on coming up telling me to retune. After I retuned, most of the BBC channels had vanished! Even the BBC News 24 had gone. Does that means I can have a refund on my licence fee?
