I bought an item of ebay at the weekend which was described as in excellent condition. It's arrived and it's covered in stains and has not even been washed. Ive contacted the seller and they say they will give me a refund if I return but it will cost £2.50 or more to post if sent recorded who pays the return postage ? me or seller has ive already paid £3 postage already for it to arrive like this.

  • What did the seller say? If you feel it's going to dispute, you will have to send it trackable to win, but you will get back your full original payment. There is nothing within eBay that can force a seller to refund your return postage.
  • Sorry the item was so poor.

Seller's are not obliged to pay for return postage but of course a good seller will if it's their fault.
Even if you opened a not as described case you have to return the item by tracked means to prove delivery to get your refund.

Ask your seller to refund your return postage after they've received the item back, It's all you can do.
  • Thanks for you replies Ive sent the seller pics of the item and im waiting to hear back from them. If I have to pay the return postage I feel I will be out of pocket as the postage will will be more than cost of the item. I wouldn't of bidded if the item hadn't been described as in excellent condition.
  • If you don't get a satisfactory response from the seller and you go to dispute, then your best would be via EBay. They have been giving labels, no fault refunds or vouchers. Don't rely on it, but it's more than paypal may even possibly think of.

Good plan. I did this last week when I received some smashed ornaments very poorly packaged.
I immediately took pictures of the damage and the packaging and sent them to the seller's PayPal email address.
Then I messaged the seller in eBay letting her know about the damage.

I received a full refund and an apology for not wrapping them properly.
(in my case, the items were unsuitable to send by post, elf & safety rules etc)
