Car auctions

I am looking to buy a new car.
Mine is nearly clapped out.
Has anyone bought a car from auction?
What are the pitfalls?
Can I really get a bargain?
I know that cars are SAS but wondered if anyone can give me any tips?
Thanks.

The auctions around here now have fees the buyer has to pay. This adds over £100 to the hammer price. (was around £35 when I started driving)
I get mines from ebay these days. Usually from someone with a few hundred 100% feedback thats obviously selling a car they've owned for a while and have a genuine story for getting rid.
Just ask a few probing questions to allow you to walk away if it's not as described.0 -

Yes you can get a bargain but there are a lot of dogs going through. You need to know what to look for so you don't end up with one with a blown headgasket for example and as the car would get an oil change before going through the block, looking for mayonnaise won't suffice.
There is no guarantee for most cars other than a worthless 1hr one on some of the cars.0
