A product called sematap will help insulate walls its recommended by EST. You can get grants for it sometimes I got quoted £1,600 inc installation plus you may need to decorate

Hi, if space allows you could put timber battons on the wall, inslulation slabs between the battons and then plasterboard. Maybe not what you are looking for but it will work and is maybe a cheeper option0

External is good for solid walls, but Still need vents though ,the above can be dot and dabbed using insulated plaster board for a faster option.
External Insulation is not always a grantable option but at least yoour rooms don't shrink.
Is this a 'price' question or 'most practical'?0 -
look up google for ce184 and theres a pdf doc which has some good info0

As BuntyB says, you could batten the walls, fill the spaces with insulation, then board over.
Or you could batten (or dot and dab) then put thermal laminate plasterboard on top. This is plasterboad with a thermal insulator (expanded or extruded polystyrene normally) attached to the back. Comes in a variety of thicknesses, the thicker the more insulating.
Full range of thermal laminates here:

We used Gyproc Thermaline Plus recently on our kitchen as it has built in vapour control which will help overcome any problems of condensation in the cavity behind the board:

You do lose a bit of room space but it isn't as noticeable as you might think - 50mm all round your room is nothing, unless your room is really tiny.
Hope this helps a bit.0 -
