Honeymoon

Hi
I am about to book my honeymoon and have to pay quite a bit up front. I was going to pay by visa debit out of bank account. Is it safe to do this? I'm just thinking in case the travel company go bust as is often happening in the present climate. Or should I pay by credit card? I didn't really want to pay by credit card but if is better/safer then I would do. I would be very grateful for any advice.

Firstly, make sure you arrange travel insurance at around the same time that you book. (That way, you are protected in case something happens and you need to change the date or cancel.) Some insurance policies also cover you against the risk of your travel company failing, and if this concerns you then make sure that such cover is included.

Secondly, there is a scheme to cover all payments made by Visa: I don't know the details but you can check. However, it is operated by Visa International because they choose to do so, and does not have the force of law. If you were to pay by credit card, then the card issuer would be legally liable in case certain things went wrong.
