Hey there, i'm looking around for a host and just can't decide. All the big ones such as godaddy, hostgator etc have some awful reviews, and all the small ones sound the same.
I have an idea for a frequently updating news site, need wordpress and a domain, and also really need to be able to use paypal. Could anyone recommend some, perhaps optimized for in the UK as that is my market.
Thanks in advance, been looking for ages but just can't find anything consistent.

Depends on what you want, what country you want to host in and how much you want to spend.
I currently use HWS Hosting (hwshosting.net/shared.html) for £25 a year - if you are lucky they may have a special offer on so take a look at webhostingtalk. They have special offer forums so take a look there as well0 -

Check out www.hostsphere.co.uk. Packages start from £19.99 for hosting (yearly) with domain name (.co.uk) charged at £6.98 for two years.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
Paypal will work on any website.
They do all the work on their servers.
All you do is create the links.
My own general recommendation is bigwetfish.
Wordpress is a standard plugin which can be installed in about 10 seconds and two clicks through their control panel.
Regarding hosting, if they are advertising on Channel 4, they're rubbish.0 -
OP possibly means paypal to pay the host??
Remember that while £xx for a year may sound good, its alot to lose when they go bellyup/shockingly bad in month 2 of a 12 month contract. I suggest monthly for a few months then go yearly if they any good.
Domains, you can register 'anywhere', and then point them to your hosting account, wherever that may be. So, once you have a domain, you can chop and change hosting providers as much as you want, but remember theres a 24-48 dns delay.
The one thing to watch out is for webhosts that are run by kids.
So check: Company registration No. ??? Registered in England and Wales. VAT No. ???
Registered office: ??? (not a po box address).
As mentioned previously, webhostingtalk.com. In specific post your hosting needs in webhostingtalk.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1
Whilst you specified UK hosts, maybe widening to europe might find what you are looking for.0 -

Non of the above matters in the slightest.
I don't have a company registration number as I'm not a limited company nor do I have a VAT number as I'm not registered for VAT.Whilst you specified UK hosts, maybe widening to europe might find what you are looking for.
Why is that? Don't you think the country needs all the help it can get?Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -

You can only use the templates offered by WP. It's very limited.Estate Agent, Web Designer & All Round Geek!0 -
I have used lots of hosts and all have their pros and cons.
I have a few domains hosted at evo at the moment. Although their support is up and down, the price is right and you may not have the problems I've had. You can (or could when I signed up) pay with paypal.
I wouldn't touch Claranet with a bargepole.
Having trouble right now with a domain on hostgator using my pics w/o permission and hostgator have done nothing about it so not impressed with them.
Would register domain separately from hosting (I use 123-reg) then it's easier to move in future.
I like Drupal but it depends what you want to do.0
