PSP from USA will it be compatible in the UK?

My friend is going to New York this week (lucky her) and wants to but a PSP for her son while she is there.
What are the drawbacks to this? Will the PSP play UK games and movies or will it only play US ones?
Also what cable would she need for charging etc.
Any help would be appreciated as I don't want her to buy this and then end up with something that's useless.

you can use uk psp games on a US or japanese psp , but only the uk and JAP will play movies bought here as they have region coding.

also if you have a mate with a psp and a uk copy of ridge racer (for example) and you have a US or japanese copy of RR and try to play over wifi (multiplayer), it won't work

For charging, a US PSP has a variable voltage adapter so all you will need is US -> UK plug adapter.

I have a US psp and aside from movies I have had no problems so far. Does anyone know if changing the region when updating the software changes the encoding?
