The relevance of any of this what exactly?.
Suppliers process tens of thousands of CoS per week so the odd few will 'fall down the gaps'.
Basically this whole issue appears to have stemmed from you not acting on the notification from EDF that your tariff was going to change around the end of March this year (about 6 months ago).IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

Because you only get very limited time to reject a change of tariff which by not doing it before the 1st bill arrived you missed. Anything over this is purely optional for the supplier. As you did not get anything in writing from BG about when the CoS date would be then your 'stuck in the middle'.

Yes I had limited time, until 24th August (until 22nd September if we include the time afforded for the new supplier to do their bit). Yes I'm caught in the middle which is why I'm now seeking advice.
Not one person has attempted to answer my options query in OP with regards "to remain with EDF Energy on your current tariff or to have your gas supply capped so that you will not incur any charges for your consumption or the daily standing charge." I asked if anyone could explain what the 'capped' option actually meant. Instead I'm being asked what tariff I'm on and getting accused of lieing when I say the daily standing charges have quadrupled my quarterly bill.
And no, I wasn't advised of any changes to tariffs or inclusions of additional charges before I got billed in July, hence EDFs agreement to give the time to find a new supplier. Seems like I'm talking to a bunch of EDF/BG advisors all trying to pass the buck onto the customer stuck in the middle!0 -
Instead I'm ... getting accused of lieing when I say the daily standing charges have quadrupled my quarterly bill.
Oh really. Was that me? If so what I said was...
The introduction of the standing charges quadrupled my quarterly bill..
All you had to do was to tell me the circumstances. You are in quite a unique situation where due to very low consumption a change from "no standing charge" to "standing charge" has a disproportionate or contractually "detrimental" effect.
You failed to implement your customer rights (for whatever reason, including not being informed) to avoid the excess cost, then by accepting Edf's offer of extension waived your right to any further claim against Edf.
In respect of British Gas's "bungling", as I said in an earlier post, you do not need to accept anything a supplier says unless it is stated, in writing, as a final or "deadlock" response to a Complaint, at which point if you remain dissatisfied you are entitled to refer the issue to the Energy Ombudsman.
This is your call. You are not helping your case by dissing a number of (more) experienced posters, on which point I am out.0 -

I stand to be corrected based on your particular circumstances but until then I don't believe that.
The bolded part made your thoughts very clear. All you had to do was to tell me the circumstances. You are in quite a unique situation where due to very low consumption a change from "no standing charge" to "standing charge" has a disproportionate or contractually "detrimental" effect.
I really didn't need to explain my very low usage here as it isn't what I'm seeking advice about. You failed to implement your customer rights (for whatever reason, including not being informed) to avoid the excess cost, then by accepting Edf's offer of extension waived your right to any further claim against Edf.
How on earth did I fail to exercise my customer rights?. I was given until 24th August to change supplier. I did this with British Gas on 17th August and informed EDF on the same day. A subsequent series of events out of my control has left me in my current position. Also, where have I accepted any extension from EDF?. I've come here to seek advice about the 2 options available to me if EDF have heard nothing from British Gas before close of business tomorrow. Nobody has attempted to offer any advice on this issue, instead preferring to relentlessly ask me about tariffs and coming to their own conclusions.
Useful information which I previously thanked you for. This is your call. You are not helping your case by dissing a number of (more) experienced posters, on which point I am out.
Experienced posters, where?. Even you, probably the most helpful person so far have come to your own conclusions without actually reading what I've put ie telling me I've accepted an extension. Goodbye.0 -
You give inadequate information and when other posters ask you for more you moan about irrelevance and when one takes a guess at the root problem (inspired) you reject it and become rude and objectionable, People have been trying to help you , but you dont deserve it.
PS I see you also posted on the same subject in July.0 -
Oh right, it's a forum where we operate with double standards, I see. So when people make such rude statements such as "I don't believe that" and "appears to have stemmed from you not acting on " it's demanded I dont react to it because these kind people are somehow above me, wow.
If the information I gave was inadequate it's because the whole process has been inadequate, I made it clear in my 2nd post here I wasn't given any literature to changes. The fact I was in dispute and given until 24th August to change supplier should've been enough detail to get some opinions on the advice I sought. If you call the above rude statements helpful then I've clearly come to the wrong place.0 -
Mr_X - re your query about " gas supply capped" - they mean physically removing your gas meter and disconnecting the gas supply to your property (probably somewhere outside your property boundary) - ANY gas supplier would then charge you to be reconnected AFAIA.
IMHO Jalexa is right in that your only recourse is to raise a formal complaint with BG re the mishandling of your switch.0 -

Thank you very much. If they end up removing my gas meter I guess I'll be seeking a new electricity supplier too.
Is it possible to make the same complaint to both EDF and BG as I do feel the late response (6 days later than promised) from the EDF advisor has also contributed to this mess?0
