Failure to display tax disk

I've always wondered exactly where the law stands on this. If you're parked on a highway are you meant to run outside of your house at the stroke of midnight and swap the discs over, because according to the rules, swap too early and it's an offence, and swap too late and it's an offence. Maybe these passing PC's/PCSO's use some sensible discretion, but then again!!
Display both, its not rocket science.0 -

Passing jobsworth's have no discretion!
Here's a tale of woe concerning one giving out a ticket early on the first of the month:

i brought a tax disc first of month and the vehicle got picked up on camera same day after id brought the tax disc but before id had chance to display it
i appealed and thought simple mistake will be ok but that wasnt the case i got fined for not displaying tax disc even thought id got a receipt to say it was brought before the camera had picked it up i was gutted
i always get the disc a week before now and find the post office doesnt have the mad rush of people taxing their vehicle0 -
See... I always knew it would happen! As for displaying both disks, I'm sure that in itself would be an offence, either that or the enforcement officer would notice the old one only, not the new one.0 -

if you had already bought the disc then why didnt you display it? if you bought it online then the 5 working days discretion is only given if purchased before the old one runs out, ie before the end of the month.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0 -

That previous quote by fivetide from directgov is just very badly worded. "do not display the new one until the old one has expired" just means "do not remove the old one and put the new one on display in it's place, before the date of expiry."
There is nothing illegal about displaying both at the same time.0 -

No, you bought a disc. You then brought the disc home with you.
bought
verb the past tense and past participle of BUY
adj purchased from a shop; not homemade
brought
verb the past tense and past participle of BRING0 -
Appeal the second one. You should be ok. I got 2 parking fines within 2 hours when i moved into my new house. I needed a parking permit and the !!!!!, sorry PCSO, stuck a fine on my window as i was unloading the van. He came back a couple of hours later [yes, the same one!] and placed another one on my window after i peeled the first one off. Lovely!
Needless to say, he got a very angry Irish man in his face tyelling him if he didn't !!!! of i'd shove his scooter up his !!!!!!
that'll be all..0 -

Appeal it. I had a fine stuck on my windscreen two days after I bought a tax disc online. I'd been on holiday so hadn't been able to get the tax disc before I went. Appealed and won on the basis of the 7 day grace period0
