Being made redundant

Hi folks. After 15 years of service the company I work for are closing part of the business.
I have been told of the package I would be entitled to.
Thing is I have applied for a vacancy else where in the company and have been told that I would not be entitled to my redundancy.
Is this the case??
Thanks
Paul

I believe if you got the job with the same company then redundancy would not apply.
You may not necessarily get the job anyway.
In fairness, you couldnt really expect anything else really.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

But my current job is being made redundant and have been told by other members of staff that I could argue the case as the job I am applying for is a totally different job to what I have been doing for past 15 years.
And I have to say thanks the positive comments that I might not get the Job. I am aware of this fact and don't need anyone to point that out for me.0 -
If you don't need people to point things out to you, don't post on message boards. You will get all sorts of perspectives and we don't know how much you already know - you clearly don't know much about redundancy law, and nor do your colleagues.0

Its your job that is redundant but you are being paid redundancy because your employment with that company is ending. NOT because your job is redundant. So if you apply for another job with the same company, and your employment is continuous, then you don't get redundancy. What you get is a job.
In some ways you are lucky. I've recently seen my employers transfer in people to my place of employment who had been working in completely different jobs and who have to travel 18 miles (36 mile round trip) to get to work now, and earn less money. They never got offered redundancy because 'suitable other employment' was found for them.

If youre going to have a bloody chipon your shoulder when people try to help you dont bother, cos if or when you want help again, people will hesitate to help you.
Your job may well be redundant but you are working for the same company.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Ditto. But that's too short a message, so I will add, if you don't want advice, don't ask for it, and if you ask for it, don't be so bloody obnoxious when you get it.0

why on earth would you think you would be entitled to redundancy and then walk into a new job with the same company? If anything you should be happy to have a job!0

Indeed. Even if you leave the company there are usually restrictions on how soon you can be re-employed. Both times it happened to me, I would have had to pay back a pro-rata amount of the payment back if re-employed within 12 months.0
