  • I take in a photo of my hair from around 5 years ago yet still they cut it wrong. Last cut, she did a straight wonky fringe and I grimaced each time I left the house. Fortunately I have noted when she is away on holiday...

If you quote me, don't forget the capital 'M'

  • Next time I'd say "to be honest it was a little shorter than I'd have liked last time. It's not a problem but I fancy it a bit longer if that's possible. What length do you think?" then get her to show you so you can say Yay or Nay.

I have only been back once, I have a sort of classic bob and I complained that it was a little "fat" under my ears, so she thinned the ends out a bit to get that sharper shape. Since then she remembers how I like it so I'm glad I mentioned it.

    A wonky fringe!

Where are the hairdressers to answer this growing list of hirsute crimes?

Last time I went to hair dressers, I asked for a trim to get rid of my split ends and to layer my hair. Well she didn't cut off that much and she said layering my hair would make it seem thinner so she didn't do them, even though I know I suit layers even with my thin hair, as I've had it before! I'm not going Tony and Guy again! I also needed shorter layers to get rid of my split ends, which were huge, so I still had a fair few split ends when I left!
  • i always tell them exactly what I want. I prefer to leave my hair natural in loose waves/curls, so just have a wetcut at my local salon. only trouble is convincing them to cut enough off, as it grows like grass.

Why are they so scared to cut long hair!
    Smile, why not.
  • I always have a dry cut, it cost me £9.50 as opposed to £22.50 for a wash and blowdry. I "hate" the way they do my hair, always too short and stuck to my head. So now, if its dry you can see better how much they are intending taking off and I stop them at that point and say not as much as that. I always come home and wash my hair and play about with it, so being a member of MSE it would be madness to pay for a blow dry.

Even I know that layers make the hair seem thicker...

Very strange that we all walk out without getting what we want and putting up with it.

I'm getting more militant as I read more posts!

    We're paying for this, folks!

Ooh that's very enterprizing. I've never heard of a dry cut. I thought you had to have all the palaver.
  • My hair is too fine for layers too, I would end up with no hair, I always have a dry cut, they spray and comb down for a trim, usually about 10 quid, I am not paying for someone to blow dry and pull my hair straight and make it look even thinner !
