Do i have to declare my husbands speeding points when renewing my car insurance?
I have a clean license, but he has some points on his for speeding, as he will be the 2nd named driver and only drive my car in an emergency do i have to declare them?
Ive done a search on this but can only find threads that say if i had points i would have to declare them.

I am saying yes.
Imagine hubby had been done for drink driving, that makes him a real insurance risk. Adding him to a policy and not saying anything would, I am sure make it invalid.
If you filled in a form online too, I'm sure they'd ask.
Tell them and be sure you are covered.

Yes - all the named drivers need to be declared in full.
If it makes a big difference to your quote and he only drives in emergencies, would it be worth taking him off as named driver? Assuming he has a car of his own and has insurance on that car that allows him to drive third party vehicles, might be worth the tiny risk to you..?Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -
Of cause you have to declare points for named drivers, likewise their claims history.
You could look at the Driver Other Cars extension on his own policy if you legally are the owner/keeper of your car but some do exclude partners cars from the cover.0 -
3 points for speeding didnt make a blind bit of difference to my own policies. In fact I got both cheaper (bike and car) the following year.
Edited to add, never affected the wifes either.0 -

Yes you have to declare all motoring convictions of any named drivers. You will find you are asked if they have any when you are getting quotes.0 -
as above... as a policy holder you are required to disclose all material facts, that includes convictions and driving history of named drivers.0

If he is already on your policy (you say declare at renewal) then you should have advised the insurance company as soon as he got the points not just at the next renewal. Just the same as if you have a company car you have to tell your employer straight away.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

I thought that was the case, but I thought it was the case with claims as well... I wrote off my campervan last month, but when I phoned by car insurance and motorbike insurance companies they both said "we don't care - just tell us at renewal".Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

This is not a rule (or a law!).
Insurers make their own policies on when they need to be informed about changes like convictions, and many main stream insurers (eg directline) are happy to be informed about convictions at renewal.
And company car drivers are "bound" only by their employers rules on when they need telling about convictions.0
