Handsfree Kit advice??

Lynsey

I've been Money Tipped!
Looking to buy my son a handsfree kit and haven't got a clue what one to buy.
Discussing it with others and finding it even more confusing, so trusting you Guys.........I hope.

Looking for a "reasonable" kit, not a Parrot (unless cheap), can anyone recommend one and which type is best (sunvisor, ear clip etc.)?? Is it just personal choice??

Thanks in advance.

I've tried sunvisor ones and not been impressed. In the end I went for a parrot ck3100 for about £100. It works really well - it loads up the phone's contact list, so the person's name comes up on the dash. I've thrown my parrot minikit in the bin.

Thats 2 more votes for the Parrot ck3100, as I have both one in my van and one in my car.
I wouldn't be without one now. You could buy a cheap sun visor one, but you'd always wish you'd bought the Parrot.

Can't he just stop in the middle of a traffic island, lane 3 of the motorway, brow of a hill or apex of a blind bend like everyone else does? ;) :rotfl:

  • Bought my wife a Bluetrek visor one and its works well with her iphone. Sounds quality not bad at all. Got a cheap groupon deal
  • I tried a visor one and couldn't get on with it ( kept forgetting to turn it on ) I now have one of these - Motorola T605

It's great , automatically turns on and pairs with the phone and I can play my phone's MP3s / Sat Nav etc through the car stereo over bluetooth , there's a similar one available without the bluetooth media playing function that's a bit cheaper - HF850

Cost me another £12 for a Car to ISO adapter lead on Ebay to connect to my car audio but they can be wired in without an adapter if you don't mind cutting the car's wires.
  • I'm wanting a Parrot CK3100 myself, but after asking for a price on my new car from my dealer they quoted me £190 fitted!!!
Is it easy to fit yourself?
  • the parrot kits come up frequently on ebay for far less than buying new, i have the 3100 in my golf and its excellent.

If you're happy to take the glovebox and radio out on your car then its usually easy. The hardest part is feeding the wire for the mic. You may need an adapter lead

Thanks Guys, although the Parrot may well be the best, it's still pricey for the amount of time it will be used.
Was thinking of the headset ones (clip on ear) TBH, but thanks again and I'll look at options, including Waynes.

Any views of the headset ones (from experience)?? I do know the clips can break and best to keep a back-up supply.

  • I've been through a number of options like sunvisor mounted, using the Tom Tom iPhone cradle etc, but to be honest they are all a compromise and you end up not using them because they don't work and it makes the phone conversation incredibly frustrating.

If you want cheap, then just get an ear piece jobby if it isn't going to be uses much. Or go the whole hog and get a proper kit.

Parrot are expensive and way overpriced in my opinion, purely because I know you can buy technology that performs the important tasks for much less.

Try Xcarlink for example, these work very well and fit out of sight and interface with the car radio, I just fitted one on my Audi for about £100
