Jsa

I have just checked government website for entitlement to JSA. It seems to be saying that I wont get any as I have an income above £50 pw. I have always earned good money and paid my taxes and my national insurance, I have never been unemployed in 33 years and now that I am I cannot claim as I get a small widows pension through my late husbands employer.
How can this be right?
I am completely ignorant about claiming from the state so pardon me if my question is too obvious.

Q. Do I still have to go to the Job Centre to registered as unemployed to get my 'stamp' paid?
I'm not wav  ing, I'm drowning!

Maybe income support would be a better one to look at? It all depends on how much you pension comes to and whether it is 'more than the law says you need to live on' which I think is around £60?

Try putting your details in at the Entitledto website and see what it comes up with

Yes you still have to sign on to get your stamp paid and that means you also have to be actively seeking work, the only alternative is to pay voluntary contributions.
  • Many thanks for the advise. I will be seeking work as my pension is not enough to live on but more than the state think is adequate... where do these people live?

I think you would be entitled to a top up as JSA is £57.45 so you earning £50 is less than the law says you have to live on, contact your local DSS and ask them to send you an application form, it wont hurt to try :)
