Hi PPL
I am thinking about having a dabble on ebay in the summer, maybe for one or two months. Buying and selling various stuff. However ive never done this before, does anyone know of any good beginners guides/books i could have a read up on.... and what makes the most money on there, i.e. what would i be best buying to sell on there. Im looking at spending about £200 on stuff...and seeing how i go on!!!
hope someone can help!!

Most of the books won't help you at all. You need to stick with items you know so that you can judge whether you can source your items at a price good enough to cover all the ebay and paypal fees and still make a profit.
Decide what it is you think you can sell and then watch the prices for a while before shelling out any of your hard earned cash. Avoid dropshippers as most items on ebay sell for less than retail.
It is also a good idea to build up some feedback before you sell as buyers tend not to trust a newbie seller and your prices will reflect this. Start now by buying a few low price items and start to build up a solid base of positive feedback.
Good luck, and BTW it is quite addictive.

I have downloaded an excellent e-book genuine free ware, which has helped me tremendously. It is American and a bit out of date on charging rates, which are not applicable to UK anyhow. The other details do not age. Assumes you know nothing, so starts with basics but you can flip forward. Comes as a 1.7MB zip file and you need Acrobat Reader 3.0 or higher (freely avialable to download). If you PM me I will send you the URL. I have no connection with the supplier, but do not want to post URL here in case there is a problem with rules.si talia jungere possis sit tibi scire satis 0

EBay Hacks: 100 Industrial Strength Tips and Tools from O'Reilly is quite a good reference for both buying and selling - but there's nothing in there that you wouldn't gather from experience anyway. It's probably available cheaper elsewhere.
There are some sample chapters on the O'Reilly site.
If you want some free advice, then you could always try and download "Ebay Secrets" or "101 Ebay Tricks" or any of the other e-books that you find for sale on ebay. All of these books are just a collection of hints and tips with a disclaimer stating they may be freely distributed so long as the authors copyright notice stays intact. Have a look on the edonkey or kazaa networks. Or just read some of the great hints and tips already posted in this forum by others.0 -
The classic book is THE EBAY BOOK by DAVID BELBIN. I do agree that most it is learnt by experiance, and these boards do help, but I can understand that you mabye want a book as some referance. This is an ok book for beginners and we bought it when we started ( in fact it was the author on telly who started us on ebay). The writer is a author who is also a Ebay fan so he gives you pratical advice. The cheapest price I found so far was £6.99 + pp at amazon and you can read reviews there. Its not to big a book so it wont bog you down. Here is the link for amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1897597436/qid=1110378347/sr=2-2/ref=sr_2_3_2/202-6649051-2203033.
Also try ebay as plenty of people sell it on - you can do to once your finished with it.0 -
check out your library.I just returned one I think was called Ebay myths busted or something like that which was excellent with good advice about every aspect of buying and selling.0
