Complete n00b - first flat HELP
Hey all, basically my girl and I have moved into our first student flat together where we pay all utilities seperate.
Apperently our landlord comes round every month to read the gas and we get an invoice from HER.
Same with the electric, but quarterly.
(There are six meters for each in the building, electric in the doorway, gas in the cellar, numbered for the six flats in here)
I feel a bit odd about not seeing a bill from the companies - is this normal? And is there any way I can estimate how much these should cost based on meter readings?

Only if it's over the odds.
The standing charge portion of the bill is about £200, per account.
If there is only one account for gas/electric meters outside, then the whole building pays £200 in standing charge. The sub-meters are just there to record what each flat uses.
If you insist on having an account per flat. You will be paying the £200 yourself.
Having utility bills in your name helps in credit applications, on the other hand.
Obviously, you should record the meter readings and work it out yourself.0
