Home sale capital gains exclusion for married couples

Hello, does anyone know how long one has to be married to take advantage of the maximum $500K capitol gains exemption? I know both parties must have lived there 2 years out of the last five, but can they be actually married for say, 2 days? This is a $37,500 questions for me!! (And whether marrying for that expemption is actually wise, I will leave to a different forum. . .) Thank you! Chris.

there is no restriction on the maximum capital gain of your principal private residence.
