Cheapest provider Gas / Elec
Sorry if this seems to be a basic question. I have tried to research but doesn't seem that straight forward!
I'm moving into our new home next Friday, having come from in laws we're not switching from anybody. Need to sort out electricity and gas. Who should I go with?
It's just me and my gf living at the address.

...having come from in laws we're not switching from anybody...
In a way you are (or will be). The moment you assume responsibility for a property a "deemed supply" contract is created with the current supplier to the property usually on standard non-online, non-direct debit rates (which are not the cheapest).
Usually it is obvious who the current supplier is either from stickers or from "to the occupier" letters. If it is not clear there are ways to find out.
It is essential that you make contact with the current supplier, set up account details and pass the opening readings. I recommend you take a photograph of the meters showing the opening readings.
As long as you don't get "persuaded" by the current supplier to move to a tariff with an early termination clause you are then free to switch to a supplier/tariff of your choice, a process which typically takes from 4 to 6 weeks to complete.
Good luck. Post again if you have other questions.0 -

There is no cheapest supplier/tariff ... if there were we'd all be on it.

Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
