OH has a problem which has been on going and I'm not sure what to suggest. He has had problems saving anything to disc and continually gets an error message that says 'an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable'.

He asked when he bought the laptop whether it was set up so he could just copy stuff onto a CD, and was told yes.

Really I'm looking for a good but basic programme I can load for him to try in case any pre loaded programmes have been corrupted. The other PCs in the house came with pre loaded software so I have no discs lying around to try, but I have found an old disc in a box called 'Philips write 2 CD, CD recording software' and wondered if anyone has heard of that and whether I am likely to make things worse by installing it? The other programme I have heard of is NERO but a quick look through online retailers suggests that tis is expensive to buy, and it seems a shame to splash out more money when perhaps it is just a fix needed that I have overlooked.

Incidentally I have tried writing things to disc from my PC and that is OK so he is not using a batch of faulty discs.

Any suggestions please (before I throw something at OH as air is turning blue here'.

    Hi
I had a similar problem burning cds from my laptop - in the end i discovered that unfortunately many people had a problem with this cd drive and i have not been able to solve it. Try a search on the internet with the specific burner (hardware not software) you are using to see if other people are having these problems. If it's still under warranty you may be able to get the drive replaced.

Another thing i found at the time: not all cd's work with all burners - some prefer certain brands - just because the ones you have work on your pc does not necessarily work with a different burner.

I would definately try the software you have i doubt it would do any harm and you never know it may work.:o

    Good luck.
