Incorrect gas bill after moving into new house
I moved into a new house on the recently. Soon after I switched my Gas supplier from EDF to British Gas. I also switched electricity to British Gas (dual fuel) at the same time and that's gone through fine.
A few days ago I finally got the final gas bill from EDF. But it was completely wrong despite me providing both parties with accurate meter readings whenever they were asked for.
EDF ended the bill on a reading of 6579, and BG started there's from 6579 which is good. Problem is my meter hasn't reached 6579 yet!
When I moved in the meter reading was 6436 (10th June). On the switchover date (30th July), the reading was 6447. What I've been billed by from EDF started at 6525 units and ended on 6579. This comes to £82.
I've submitted a meter reading to BG 3 times since and each time they've emailed back saying that the reading is less than the bill reading so they wont charge me for this month.
Now I've done some maths and I think that If I stump up the £82 now, I'll actually save money in the long run if BG keep saying they wont charge me each month.
BUT, what are the chances of EDF or BG realising what's happened and possibly billing me in the future?
I'm quite happy to get this corrected, but I know after my dealings with energy companies this will probably be a long winded painful process and will drag out over weeks and weeks.
Would you try and get this resolved or just stick with it and hopefully be a few quid up after a few months and not have the hassle?

Why do you say "both parties"? On a switch there is only a need to provide the gaining supplier with the transfer reading (on request).
Given that the numbers are the same ISTM that the "number" (right or wrong) must have been provided to the losing supplier by the gaining supplier. If the "final" Edf bill is clearly marked "final" then Edf has accepted the reading. This is to your advantage.
No idea why the number is not the number you provided BG and why it it is so far out. If BG kick-off about this just raise a complaint with BG. Their problem, not yours.0 -

I'll check the wording when I get home to see if it mentions "final" in the letter. I know that the meter readings have a notation next to them which indicates it was an 'actual' reading, even though it can't have been as we didn't supply it and no one has been in the house to check!

It is possible that the reading you provided at Change of Supply did not fit with the reading history. As long as the start/end readings match (which they do) there is no need to do anything. Just wait until the meter reads greater than 6579 before submitting a reading.
In the next 12 months it is possible for a 'dispute' to be raised which could change the CoS reading but this would result in both suppliers rebilling you. Given that the difference was only 122 units and the lower limit for disputes is 250 then this should not happen.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
