Renting whilst Bankrupt

Hi
Can anyone advise me as to whether letting agents do credit checks on you? My husband and I are in the process of going bankrupt and will loose our house. Will we have to private rent and wonder how bankruptcy will affect this?

In 2010 I would like money left at the end the month rather than more month left at the end of the money!!

Our letting agents did a credit check on us before we moved into the property, we had to provide 5 references each and also have a reference from the bank.
Each letting agenct might operate differently though0 -
Thanks bunnie. Did you have an adverse credit history? Do you think 10 references is normal practice?

Why don't you rent privately rather than using an agent? Agents definitely carry out credit checks. Private landlords I'm sure will be a bit more lenient

My OH had adverse credit but we still managed to get the place we are living in at the moment.
I have rented before too, one where I had to give 3 references and then I rented straight through a private landlord who did not ask for any references0 -

if you know you are going to lose your house then find a rental before it happens if possible.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Thanks for this. I expect we'll do this now. Do you know the best place to find private landlords? We've never rented before so any advice would be much appreciated.silvercar wrote:if you know you are going to lose your house then find a rental before it happens if possible. In 2010 I would like money left at the end the month rather than more month left at the end of the money!!

Hi
we rent privately but were in here before the BR went through. The or was extremely understanding when we spoke to him about contacting the landlord as we were not sure how they would react. He said that as long as we were not in arrears there was no need to speak to LL. All our rent outgoings etc were shown by bank statements and we had to produce our copy of the agreement to show rent cost and council tax.
I would certainly obtain a rental property before going br and privately if possible. (We found ours advertised in the provincial daily paper where we live.)
If you then want to move you can always ask landlord for a reference then !!!!!!!!!!!!!!:rotfl:1/11/06 -1/06/07 BSC #42

https://www.gumtree.com My DS1 found an excellent rental when moving to a new city in November last. Took the 1st place he found. No credit checks, just proof of employment and 2 x private refs. Debs.0
