mrmuseli/graphics card

Options
mrmuseli,
only got out Sat to have a look around my local shop and ended up with a GeForce FX5200 128mb £29.99.
My problem is I have just got 2x1gb ddr400 memory sticks for xmas so had to stick with a AGP card. I did look at the Scan one.£47 but it draws a fair few watts.
What I am going to look for now is a m/b which supports ddr memory and AGP graphics and 2.6/3.0gb Athlon processor can't afford to throw away the ddr memory any advice there at all.I am happy to have last years spec but realise will have to buy soon as there don't seem to be too many boards about.
Thanks again any help.
Nick

  • you could move to socket 939 which will get you an athlon 64 - even a dual core A64 and if you want you could get a pci graphics card with that as well, or stick to AGP if you want - there are motherboards supporting both in that socket type.
  • Thanks for the help do you have any motherboards in mind?
  • asus are generally v good - depends wether you want to stick to agp or go over to pci which will increase your choice of higher end cards and enable you to play newer games.
  • Thanks for that would like to stick with my AGP and DDR. Just bought GeForce graphics and the ddr was a xmas present.Am happy with my present system but just wanted to improve the graphics. So will have a look at some ASUS m/b.
    Again thanks for the help.

  • well to improve the graphics you should change the graphics card - cpu does very little (there are exceptions) for graphics

I dont know if this is of any interest to you, but a friend just got an Asrock motherboard as he didnt want to do the whole upgrade thing. Hes very impressed with it, and now has the option to upgrade the CPU, memory, hard drive and graphics as the prices drop/his old components fail. Seems like a sensible option to me.

  • Zagu,
thanks for that you must be a mind reader popped in to my local computer shop for a chat today (Tue) and he said the same board would suit my needs so have ordered one.Covers agp and ddr memory.
