Ebid's founders would rather shut-up-shop than sell to Ebay.
as much as i'd like to believe that was true, if ebid got themselves into a position where they became a viable threat to ebay and were approached for a takeover, i'm confident that the offer of a fair few million dollars would be enough to change their minds and not make them shut up shophelpful tips

The online marketplace market would benefit from having a good generalist site to rival eBay. eBay's main competition comes from the big media marketplace sites and as a buyer more choice is always appreciated. However, very few people have ever made a generalist site work - there are plenty of niche sites which thrive because their founders and administration realise the money needed to keep the site going comes from buyers and from sellers paying a reasonable fee to list, and doing so continuously rather than just paying a lump sum to list for free for life.
Once eBid realise this the world is their oyster. However, they are very stubborn about it - a surprise when they see how well it works for eBay, Amazon, Play, Delcampe, etc who make no apologies for their fee structures and manage to bring in the listings and buyers in considerable numbers."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
