Electric white meter
imho
My son has storage heaters and a immersion heater in the house he is in. So with the "white meter " he has,if we put a timer on the immersion heater to come on in the middle of the night, would that run on the white meter, cheaper electric ?
My son says NO, but i swear ,everything that is running after a certain time,is running off that white meter, when the electric is cheaper.
Thanks very much

Sucks air though teeth and says "depends"

It does depend how the Economy 7 is wired and set up. Some places the whole lot switches over, some places have just some circuits (especially Storage Heaters) wired into the E7. So without seeing the set up it's hard to tell. Even when you have seen it, it can be hard to tell.

Ok,Thanks very much.Theres no way of checking the normal meter at night, cause if remember the white meter turns on in the middle of the night,I am sure he is not going to get up and take a reading of the normal meter,to see if it uses electric ,when the white meter is on .0

to control an immersion heater you could use one of these,

You need to get it correctly wired, and the electrician should be able to check if the E7 clock and existing house electrics are suitable.baldly going on...0 -
Thanks baldelectrician,I am just going to plug in a timer switch, and see how i get on.i check one week with it on timer and have it set for night time one week. Then not on the timer and see what the difference is ,0

don't leave a plug in timer unattended with an immersion heater. Most aren't designed to carry a 3kW load. There may be a (slight) fire risk.
The E7 timer I listed is specifically made for this purpose (this is why it is treble the cost)baldly going on...0
