Scottish Power Breaching TPS

Late last week I received a cold call from Scottish Power trying to sell me an Energy Deal.

It was from an agency working from a Prestwick office. I stopped the call as I am registered with the TPS. I asked how my details had been obtained and was told it was from a survey. I never complete any survey for the very reason of avoiding this sort of pestering call.

I asked what was the number and the agent at first refused to give it. I got their name and that of a Supervisor and reported the matter to the TPS via their complaints procedure.

I asked to be removed from any database.

Today an identical call was received from the same offices. I was told it could not have been from the same office as there was no record of me asking to be removed from the database or any record of a previous call.

I got caller's name and again asked for the Agencies name. They then cut me off before answering.

I have again reported the matter to the TPS.

Posters who receive these unsolicited and unwanted calls should do likewise and hopefully penalties will be issued. No idea why the callers hide their identity or rudely cut off the call mid stream following perfectly reasonable questions.

Ironically, I am already a Scottish Power customer.:o

    The MPS/TPS Website states:
Organisations with which you have an ongoing relationship, for example those who regard you as a customer, (or in the case of charities - a donor) may well gather your consent during the early stages of your relationship with them and will therefore be entitled to call you even if your number is registered on TPS, unless you have previously told them specifically that you object to them calling you for marketing purposes.
Maybe this goes back a few years?

They didn't know I was a Scottish Power customer !

They specifically asked on both calls who my Supply was currently with as an opening salvo.

    Thanks Graeme.

I am going to monitor the situation myself as I have now asked for the details to be removed twice. That clearly should be sufficient.

It was infuriating, to say the least, when the second agent told me that I must be wrong about two calls being received from their offices. The script was the same, the office was the same and the refusal to give the agency name was the same, with the calls being made within a few days of each other.:o

Anyway the TPS should be able to trace the calls.

also do remember the TPS is no guarantee, but it does root out the majority of these pestering calls.....

I now answer the phone with 'hello' then listen to who is calling and then either continue the conversation or just hang up without saying anything.
