Cashback if changing tariffs but not supplier?

Hi,

I'm currently with Eon SaveOnline3 which will end on 31st Oct. All the comparison sites are agreeing that Eon SaveOnline9 will now be the best bet and if I go through SimplySwitch I can get £40 cashback. Two questions:

Do I still get cashback by changing tariff only and not supplier? It doesn't say anywhere that you don't, so maybe I'm just over-wary.

I have a cancellation fee of £30 until 31st Oct. Do I wait until after that date to apply to prevent this kicking in, or can I apply now? How long does switching usually take and will they charge me the £30 because I applied before the end date?

Thanks,

Sadly you can't get cashback just for changing tariffs. You need to switch supplier to get as its a kickback to the site for introducing a new customer, and they in turn pay you some of the fee.

To change just tariffs you do it on the Eon site and its instant. So you will want to wait until the end date. Although Eon may let you change tariffs before then without the cancellation fee - you'd need to ask them.

Usually changing suppliers takes 4-6 weeks so you can risk doing it before or wait until closer to the end date.

Ahh...I did wonder! The switching sites don't make that clear (well I suppose it's there somewhere in the small print). It makes sense. The economics of it, from the supplier's point of view, didn't stack up for me!
