NLR seller

Options
Won 4 separate items from same seller. £30 in total, paid with debit card via paypal on 14/12/06. Goods haven’t arrived and seller is “no longer registered”

Seller had 100% feedback (70), I’ve used her in the past with no problems but her auctions didn’t have the £500 protection bit.

Am I right in assuming paypal will do nothing and as I didn’t use credit card I can’t do anything?

Similarly re ebay, am I right that the £15 is per item which means that nothing would come back from them either?

Go and put a dispute through with Paypal now by logging into your account and finding the link on the left. Anyone can do this to say the items have not been received so do this now and in 10 days if you do not have your goods you'll get your money back. If one of my package does not arrive this is what some buyers do (I never let it get tis far but some buyers do not even tell me their packet has not arrived andnot being blessed with a psychic ability I don't know this) and they always find in favour of the buyer uless the seller has a tracking number. You have waited a long time to get your package so do it now bwfore time runs out - I have the protection on mine but I am sure this just gives extra protection to the value of £500 rather than the usual £250.

I am sure I'll be corrected if I am wrong. :)

If the seller doesnt have Paypal buyer protection, you can still use the standard Ebay PP programme....you are covered up to £120, but they will charge an admin fee of £15 per item.

I believe paypal's protection applies, which does not have a charge.

If the pp account still has cash in it, there's a chance you'll get a full refund.

  • Thanks for the suggestions so far…..

When a PP dispute is opened do the freeze the PP account (so it can’t be emptied) or is it worth me escalating it immediately from a dispute to a claim?

I would fileand then wait a few days. if you get no response to the dispute in a few days then escalate if you have had no response from the seller at all, give him a few days to get back to you at least. When the dispute is started they will freeze the funds that you paid - if they have £100 and you paid £50 their balance will drop to £50. They do not suspend the account but if they have no money in it you'll probably get your money back but the seller will either have recovery people after them or they'll take it from their bank account to pay you and their account could have gone into the red. What was it by the way and do you know why the seller is no longer registered (bad feedback, non-payment, selling fakes etc..).

if the seller is no longer registered...I doubt they will have funds sitting in Paypal....

It depends, if they have been suspended for a trading reason then the Paypal account might be frozen too. Either way Paypal will refund the seller and claim the money back themselves - that is the protection that they offer. They always find in favour of the buyer unless seller has sent Specil Delivery or by courier. In the past I have paid someone with an old personal account rather than my Business account and it put my account into the red (don't know why they paid it but they did) and they sent me an email telling me my account was a negative balance and to put some funds into it and I did, but if you don't then they'll just let there debt peeople deal with it. Not sure if it was it on these board but someone had asked about owing money to Paypal somewhere? OP should file the dispute with Paypal right away though otherwise time will run out for them.

A paypal dispute certainly can't make things worse. Money or no money, at least it gives a chance.
