Using BA Airmiles to upgrade flight seats

Hello - wondering if anyone would be able to tell me how many BA airmiles it would take to upgrade a flight from economy to business class. London to Cancun is the route. Thanks.

  • Unfortunately you can't upgrade from economy to business. You can currently upgrade from full fare economy to premium economy (not worth it in my opinion as you are unlikely to save anything) or from most premium tickets (if purchased from ba directly) to club for 12500 miles each way. Note this is subject to availability and can require slot of planning/luck. You can't upgrade travel agent tickets. Hope this helps.

That's right- but subject to availability and there are usually only a couple of seats per flight.

Go to the BA executive club site, click on "using miles" then throw some dates in to see if you can purchase Clubworld seats with miles. If the dates you want are available to purchase using miles then they are available to upgrade to as well. Buy WT+ tickets, then you will be able to upgrade it with 12,500 miles each way. Best use of BA miles by a long way.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
