What is causing this SQUEAK?!
My car (Suzuki Ignis) has a squeak which seems to be coming from the front nearside tyre.
It only squeaks when the car is moving, is uneven (as if the brake disc is warped or it's catching at some point) i.e. (...SQUEAK....SQUEAK....SQUEAK....) and goes faster when I accelerate... and stops when I'm braking.
Also when I'm braking very gently, I can hear a grinding/rubbing sound, again uneven like the squeak.
I assumed it was something to do with the brakes but it's just been for a service and apparently there's nowt wrong with the front discs or pads at all. I had hoped that them taking the brake mechanism off to have a look, and re-seat it, might solve the problem...
Can anyone suggest what might be the cause of it? It's driving me crazy and it's attracting unwanted attention by pedestrians when I drive, lol. Too cool for school, me :rotfl:

I had a similar problem with an old Metro that was definitely caused by the brakes. Exact same symptoms, a squeak for every revolution of the wheel, it went away if I built up speed then jumped on the brakes(checking my rear view mirror) but it always came back.
My car was serviced too with no issues but the squeak remained.
In the end I changed the pads myself and the squeak went.0 -
Also had the same problem on my Astra, I tried to replace the discs and pads myself but it appears all the holding parts were welded into the caliper and someone had done my wheelnuts up using Zeus's arms with a 100ft bar for leverage, so I had to go to a local garage to do it for me. Also, it might sound like it's coming from the front but get the rears checked as well, amazing how sound can travel in strange directions
If the brakes havent been replaced for a year or so you've probably had a decent mileage from them to get them replaced0 -
Pads probably just need a clean and copper grease/anti-squeal compound (Pagid make some) put on the BACK. Pads will always drag to a certain degree on the disc, under the right (or possibly wrong) conditions this will set-up a resonance (vibration) which can be heard as a squeak.0

Thank you all - I'll get it up on the jack this weekend and have a good look myself!0

Just to update on this post, it turned out to be the wheel bearing. Replaced it and the squeak has gone... yay!!!0
