URGENT advice on benefits please.

Hello Everyone.

I was wondering if someone could give me a little advice on the potential ramifications of applying for housing benefits & job seeker allowance.

I was made redundant from my job 2 weeks ago and my girlfriend, who i live with, is now also out of contract. I am worrying about covering the rent whilst we look for new roles and have been seeking some advice on what benefits we might be entitled to. So far i have to say it's not been that easy to obtain this information.

We were informed we couldn't arrange an appointment at the job centre unless we had applied for benefits, so we made an appointment for tomorrow morning.

Since being out of work a few potential opportunities have arisen in Australia but i am concerned if we apply for financial help now it might cause some problems later on if i have to apply for visas, mortgages, loans, new roles etc.

Can anyone shed any light on this please - i'm really worried about getting into something i may later regret.

Post on the benefits board - you will find that the best advice comes from the people with experience there. Here we deal with actual redundancies mostly, and it will be chance if anyone can help!
