Where would you look for a reputable roofer?

We've had problems with a section of our roof for the whole time we have lived in our home.
In 6 years two different roofers have replaced the whole of a particular section of it, provided a 10+ year guarantee and then each when we have contacted them to complain that it is still leaking they have ignored most of our calls or on the odd occasion we have managed to get them back said that it is something else and asked for more money (in the latest case £1500 which was more than the original work cost).
I've had a look at the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, contractor search and only found a couple local to us and most don't market themselves towards smaller domestic repairs. Are there any other accreditations to look for?

Word of mouth and recommendations from people is the best way.
Roofers rip people off because they count on people not going up to the roof to have a look at what they're doing.0 -

I used a roofing federation roofer some years ago when I had a horrendous Insurance claim. I even got the area rep for Roofing Federation involved. He was mega-helpful. See if you can contact the area rep for Roofing Federation. He may be able to suggest someone to you0
