Has anyone heard of Sainsbury's new price match?

At the Sainsbury's till, the computer compares to the other supermarkets and refunds the difference if cheaper at Asda or Tesco for example.

Anyone used this? I think it is on trial at Sainsbury's in Northern Ireland atm.

So you get the difference back in vouchers - to encourage you to shop there again. Not actually much of an inconvenience - but why don't they go one better and actually lower their prices?

It's a trial in 18 of their stores, which I think I saw in an earlier thread are in Northern Ireland.
  • I saw a sign in L@mpet@er store a few weeks ago...

But it didnt say they they pay you the difference, just that they computer check with Tesco stores
  • There is a thread about it here - https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3428507

Currently on trial in Northern Ireland at the moment

There's a minimum spend of £20 and an array of other restrictions? LOL

Nice try Sainsbury's but sounds like the new scheme's not going to be a runaway winner compared to what the competition is already offering. Good for anyone loyal to Sainsbury's though!

The best thing about the sainsbury's price match is that it's instant!!
You get a slip from the voucher printer at the till to tell you how much cheaper sainsburys was today in comparison to tesco and asda, or issue a voucher for the difference. They only compared branded products, not shops own brand. I like it though, as the shopper doesn't have any leg work to do-all automatic.
  • As a sainsburys employee, we got told about this about 2 months ago. They are trialling this system in Northern Ireland for now, where their system automatically checks prices against other supermarkets and prints a voucher for you there and then if Sainsburys cost more. A great system when you think about it, rather than having to make the effort of doing yourself on your computer at home and then printing it out yourself. I think they plan to spread it nationwide later, but no specifics have been told to us :)
