PPI claim dragging out!

Hi guys.

I initially posted this one under the "Successes and Failures" thread but it's probably better posted here to get an answer!

I followed the proscribed format, ie .....

What are you reclaiming: PPI
Who is the provider: Central Trust
How much did you get back: So far - nothing!
Did you get it back? After a letter? Or did you go to the Financial Ombudsman: My initial complaint made to Central Trust started July 2010 - got nowhere. Using the templates here I escalated to an FSA adjudicator Feb 2011 - who found in our favour but still got nothing. The adjudicator escalated it to ombudsman in May 2011. So far - 19th September 2011 - still nothing. A recent conversation with the adjudicator says that it could be another year!!
And then write your brief rant: A year on from initially complaining, to be told it could be yet another year, is totally unacceptable. If I miss just a handful of mortgage repayments I'll be in court within months. Who do I complain to to get the FSA to get it's act together and unstick our money? So far we are owed c£10k. By this time next year it will be nearly £12k!?! We're already deep in the financial do-do and the £130 a month we're still paying for a defunct PPI could be all it takes to get an IVA - we could now be well on the way to getting out of the merde!! It makes me wanna @#/%$!!!**!

OMMMM!!!!! Yours serenely,
Gaz

  • The other side has asked for an Ombudsman to look at the case. That is their right (just as it is yours).

This means it is now in a (long) queue with all the other cases that are waiting.

This is why I generally recommend hanging on unless you have had a response telling you that you must go to FOS if you want to take it further.

Don't quite understand what you mean by "hanging on". I'm in the queue for an ombudsman- I've got no choice now but to hang on!

You mean a Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) Adjudicator. The FSA does not get involved in individual disputes.

FOS is intended to be an inexpensive dispute resolution mechanism.

If you want to travel first class that means court - which can still take some time, is not without risk and is not consumer friendly.

You could argue that you are suffering financial hardship but they will not necessarily allow you to jump the queue because that is by definition unfair on others.

For many complainants there are delays with the firm complained to but if you go to FOS you leave one queue and go to the back of a longer one.

Yes, sorry! Not familiar with all the terms!

I agree with everything you have said - it was just me having a rant!
