Recently had a quote for Rhepanol FK single ply felt. Just wondered if this is the same as standard felt?
Waiting on a quote for fibreglass. Had a few roofers round and all (bar the one quoting for it) advised against Rhepanol FK single ply felt as we need access to clean the windows upstairs and they said it is easily punctured.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? It's a minefield. Fibreglass on it at the mo. The guy quoting for the felt said something about the council having to be informed if you're taking the whole lot off and putting a new roof on.

what kind of roof is it?
We've just had our extension flat roof completely redone in rubber after years and years of paying people to repair our cr*p bitumen and tar roof- no more leaks and a lifetime guarantee too. Brilliant!0 -
Hey, it's a flat roof on an extension.0

Well, a flat roof! any leaks?0

The rubber is called EPDM, you can google it.
Here's the type we used- firestonerubbercover.com
After we researched it we then found an installer who was fantastic!
We're delighted we got it done and the prices stand up really well to traditional roofing felt and tar bitumen stuff which gets damaged in the heat and the cold. It's useless!

This is a butyl rubber and not like normal felt. It should give a long life (30 years or so) which is longer than traditional felt too
Many roofers are still stuck in the old mindset of bitumen felt and don't really know of these newer rubber type coverings, so may advise you to be wary. But in practical terms it can be walked on for normal maintenance, and you just take the same precautions of any flat roof covering if working on it for longer periods
As for notifying the council, that guy was correct in that when renewing roof coverings, there is an onus to notify under the building regulations and insulating to current standards if feasible to do so. Many people don't bother notifying though0 -
Warning: Fibreglass is a 7/10
There is a misguided belief that glass fibre roof is a lifetime, one off fit. Ever seen a 25 year old boat/garage door/canopy.
UV light damages the make-up and it eventually gets hairline cracks, dull spots and finally breakdown. As many roof applications are fitted in reverse, the matting is put down then resin put over the top.then a gloss top. (Most glassfibre is made in a mould, so resin is put nunder and over the matting).
Go for Butyl, avoid felt and most of all take any warranty as a sales pitch tool. 99% of companies will not be around in 5 years never mind 25.0
